Charith Asalanka has been appointed captain of Sri Lanka for the upcoming T20I series against England after regular captain Kusal Mendis was ruled out with an injury.
The Sri Lankan squad is scheduled to leave the island tomorrow for the white-ball tour of England, which includes both ODI and T20I series.
Mendis had originally been named captain of both squads. However, Sri Lanka Cricket announced today that the opener will miss the T20I series due to injury.
As a result, Asalanka has been handed the T20I captaincy, while Pavan Rathnayake has been called up to replace Mendis in the squad.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Binura Fernando has also suffered an injury and will miss the T20I series. He has been replaced by fellow left-arm quick Dilshan Madushanka.
Sri Lanka will now head into the England series under Asalanka’s leadership, with two key squad changes ahead of the tour.
