FIFA World Cup 2026 Kicks Off Today as Football Fever Grips the Globe

The world’s biggest football spectacle, the FIFA World Cup 2026, gets underway today, marking the 23rd edition of the prestigious tournament.

Hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the tournament will run from today until July 19, featuring a record 48 nations competing for football’s ultimate prize.

A total of 16 stadiums will host matches across the three countries. The expanded format sees teams divided into 12 groups of four, with the group stage setting the stage for an action-packed month of football.

The tournament opener will see Mexico take on South Africa in a Group A clash, while South Korea face the Czech Republic tomorrow.

Brazil remain the most successful nation in FIFA World Cup history, having lifted the trophy five times in:

Germany and Italy follow with four titles each, while reigning champions Argentina have won the World Cup three times (1978, 1986, and 2022).

Argentina will begin their 2026 campaign in Group J, aiming to defend the crown they won in Qatar four years ago.

Among the biggest attractions of the tournament are football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The iconic duo will both feature in their sixth FIFA World Cup, extending their remarkable international careers and adding another chapter to one of football’s greatest rivalries.
