After a 16-year drought, the Sri Lankan national football team secured a historic 1–0 victory against Brunei today in an international fixture held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The match remained goalless through the first half, with both sides unable to break the deadlock. However, in the 56th minute, Liyon Perera found the back of the net, scoring Sri Lanka’s only goal of the game.

Neither team managed to score in the second half, allowing Sri Lanka to seal the win with a narrow margin.

This is Sri Lanka’s first international football win against Brunei in 16 years, marking a significant moment for the national side.

According to current FIFA world rankings, Sri Lanka is ranked 200th, while Brunei holds the 185th spot. Despite the gap, Sri Lanka’s victory today signals renewed hope for its position in regional football.
