The Colombo Hockey Association (CHA) proudly marked a major milestone with the successful hosting of its 70th Annual General Meeting, recently held at the BRC Club in Colombo. In a key development at the event, Mr. Charitha D. Karunarathna was elected as the new President of the Association, signaling a fresh chapter of dynamic leadership for one of Sri Lanka’s most respected hockey institutions.
Founded in 1955, CHA has played a foundational role in shaping the landscape of field hockey in the country. Renowned for organizing prestigious tournaments such as the Andriesz Shield and the Pioneer Shield League, along with knockout tournaments like the Pioneer Cup and the Bacon Cup, the Association has long been a beacon of excellence and competition in Sri Lankan hockey.
Mr. Karunarathna, an alumnus of Nalanda College, Colombo 10, brings with him years of involvement in the local hockey community. His vision centers on strengthening grassroots development, improving infrastructure, and fostering strategic collaboration among stakeholders. With a background in leadership and sports advocacy, he aims to nurture young talent and uplift the sport at school and club levels.
