In Match 49 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings suffered another setback as Punjab Kings secured a commanding 4-wicket victory at Chepauk Stadium yesterday.
Winning the toss, Punjab Kings opted to bowl first. Chennai Super Kings posted a competitive total of 190 runs before being bowled out. All-rounder Sam Curran stood out for CSK, hammering 88 off just 47 balls, while Dewald Brevis chipped in with a handy 32.
On the bowling front, Punjab’s Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a stellar performance, claiming 4 wickets including a hat-trick. Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen supported well with two wickets each.
In reply, Punjab Kings chased down the target with two balls to spare, finishing at 194/6. Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with a blazing 72 off 41 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh added a solid 54.
For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana and Khalil Ahmed took two wickets apiece, but their efforts weren’t enough to stop the Punjab charge.
With this victory, Punjab Kings have now moved into second place on the points table. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings—having lost 8 out of their 10 matches—are on the brink of elimination and face an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs.
