Sri Lanka’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Rugby World Cup were extinguished today following their defeat to the United Arab Emirates in the Asian Rugby Championship Division One tournament.
The match took place at the Colombo Racecourse Ground. At the end of the first half, UAE led by 22–16. At full time, the UAE emerged victorious with a scoreline of 29–21.
The winning team secured their points through 3 tries, a conversion, and a penalty. Sri Lanka’s points came from a try, a conversion, and 3 penalty kicks.
For Sri Lanka, Mohamed Riflan and Shamila Kushan scored tries, while Tharinda Ratwatte successfully kicked 3 penalties and a conversion.
According to the tournament points table, Hong Kong currently lead the standings, with the UAE in second place and South Korea in third. Sri Lanka finished the competition in fourth place, thus ending their World Cup qualification campaign.
