Sri Lanka has qualified for the semifinals of the Asian Rugby Sevens Series second leg, held at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo. The Lankans displayed outstanding form, winning all three of their group matches in Pool C.
After defeating Uzbekistan in their opening clash, Sri Lanka went on to crush Singapore 22–5 in their second game. The team scored through tries by Srinath Sooriyabandara, Dinal Ekanayake, and Heshan Jansz, while Sooriyabandara successfully converted one try.
Their brilliant run continued in the third match against China, where Sri Lanka dominated with a 34–7 victory. Leading 12–7 at halftime, the hosts ran riot in the second half, adding 22 more points while keeping China scoreless. Sri Lanka scored three tries and two conversions in total.
With these back-to-back wins, Sri Lanka has marched confidently into the semifinals and will take on Japan later this evening in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
