By the end of the second day of the second Test between India and England, the touring Indian team had secured a commanding position.
Batting first, India amassed a total of 587 runs in their first innings, all out. Indian captain Shubman Gill scored 269 runs, registering the highest individual Test score by an Indian captain on English soil. In addition, Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 87 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja added 89 runs.
For England, Shoaib Bashir claimed 3 wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue took 2 wickets each.
When England began their first innings yesterday, India’s bowlers quickly removed the top three wickets for just 25 runs. After that, Joe Root and Harry Brook steadied the innings with an unbeaten 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
At stumps on day two, England were 77 for 3. Joe Root was on 18 runs, while Brook was unbeaten on 30. For India, Akash Deep took 2 wickets and Mohammad Siraj picked up 1 wicket.
England, still playing their first innings, trail India by 510 runs.
