Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to the top of the IPL points table after securing a convincing 33-run victory over Punjab Kings in yesterday’s encounter.
Batting first, Hyderabad posted a massive total of 235/4. Heinrich Klaasen led the charge with a blistering 69 off 43 balls, while Ishan Kishan smashed 55 from just 32 deliveries. Abhishek Sharma contributed 35, Travis Head scored 38, and Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten on 29.
For Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up one wicket each.
In reply, Punjab Kings managed 202/7 in their 20 overs. Cooper Connolly fought a lone battle with a sensational unbeaten 107 off 59 balls, registering his maiden IPL century.
Marcus Stoinis added 28 runs, while Suryansh Shedge chipped in with 25, but their efforts were not enough to take Punjab over the line.
Pat Cummins and Shivang Kumar claimed two wickets each for Hyderabad, while Eshan Malinga, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Saqib Hussain picked up one wicket apiece.
With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad moved to the top spot in the IPL standings, while Punjab Kings slipped to second place.
The 50th match of the tournament between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore is scheduled to be played today in Lucknow.
