Kusal Mendis etched his name in history with a sensational century in the Pakistan Super League, becoming the first Sri Lankan to score a hundred in the tournament.
Representing Peshawar Zalmi, Mendis delivered a stunning knock against the Karachi Kings in Karachi.
Zalmi had an early setback as Mohammad Haris was dismissed for a duck in the very first over. However, Mendis, alongside skipper Babar Azam, turned the game on its head with a record-breaking 191-run partnership for the second wicket — the highest for any wicket in PSL history.
Mendis smashed 109 off just 52 balls, featuring 4 sixes and 14 fours, while Babar remained unbeaten on 87 off 51 deliveries. Late fireworks from Abdul Samad, who blasted 40 off 12 balls, powered Zalmi to a massive 240/3 in 20 overs.
In response, Karachi Kings crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 87.
With the ball, Iftikhar Ahmed, Nahid Rana, and Sufiyan Muqeem starred with three wickets each.
Peshawar Zalmi sealed a dominant 159-run victory, with Kusal Mendis named Player of the Match for his historic ton.
