The second One Day International (ODI) between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed to tomorrow, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The third ODI is now expected to be played on November 16.
Initially, the second and third matches were scheduled for today and November 15, but recent security concerns have forced a change. The tension arose following a suicide bombing in Islamabad, which occurred just minutes before the start of the first ODI.
Due to the incident, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) requested that several of its players be allowed to return home citing safety reasons. In response, SLC confirmed that it has discussed the matter directly with the players and is closely coordinating with PCB to ensure everyone’s safety.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has assured the highest level of security for the Sri Lankan team, and Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has personally met with Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner Fred Siriweera to discuss the measures in detail. Siriweera reportedly expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.
SLC further stated that it has instructed all players, staff, and management to continue with the tour as planned, while reaffirming that any player or staff member who chooses to return to Sri Lanka against official instructions will face a formal inquiry and disciplinary action. Replacement players will be called up immediately to ensure the series continues without interruption.
Despite the tense situation, both cricket boards have agreed to carry on the ODI series, with Pakistan guaranteeing the security and well-being of the Sri Lankan contingent.
