Batting first after being put in, Zimbabwe posted a competitive 175 for 7 from their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Brian Bennett, who smashed a brilliant 81 runs, holding the hosts’ batting together.
For Sri Lanka, pace spearhead Dushmantha Chameera struck with three wickets, restricting Zimbabwe from pushing past the 180 mark.
Chasing 176, Sri Lanka’s innings had its tense moments, but they managed to hold their nerve. Pathum Nissanka played a crucial knock of 55, while Kamindu Mendis guided the chase with an unbeaten 41, steering the visitors home with five balls to spare and four wickets in hand.
The victory gives Sri Lanka an early lead in the series and a confidence boost ahead of the remaining matches.
