Sri Lanka Secures Historic ODI Series Victory Against New Zealand After 12 Years

Sri Lanka achieved an ODI series victory against New Zealand after 12 years.

This was achieved by winning the second match held yesterday (17th).

In the match at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first, allowing New Zealand to bat.

Due to rain, the match was reduced to 47 overs per side.

New Zealand scored 209 runs, being all out in 45.1 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka secured victory by scoring 210 runs in 46 overs, losing seven wickets.

Kusal Mendis, batting at number three, stood firm at one end with an unbeaten 74 runs, playing a lone hand.

Maheesh Theekshana remained unbeaten with 27 runs.

With one match remaining, Sri Lanka clinched the ODI series.

The last time Sri Lanka won an ODI series against New Zealand was in 2012.

This is also Sri Lanka’s fifth ODI series victory in 2023.

The third ODI between the two teams is scheduled for tomorrow (19th).
