Sri Lanka’s Under-19 women’s cricket team got off to a flying start in their T20 series against Australia U19, claiming a 25-run victory in the first match played at the Dambulla International Stadium today.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a competitive 133 for 3 in their 20 overs, with opener Sanjana Kavindi leading the charge with a stylish 62.
In reply, Australia U19 struggled against Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack, managing only 108 for 8 in their allotted overs. Emily Powell top-scored for the visitors with 39, but the rest of the lineup faltered.
Chamodi Prabodha and Aseni Thalagune were outstanding with the ball, each grabbing three wickets to derail Australia’s chase.
For her match-winning half-century, Sanjana Kavindi was named Player of the Match.
This victory gives Sri Lanka early momentum in the series and marks a statement performance against one of the top youth teams in women’s cricket.
