Sri Lanka have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup after winning all three of their matches in the group stage.
Sri Lanka secured their third consecutive victory yesterday, defeating Bangladesh by four wickets in Dubai.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bowl first and restricted Bangladesh to 114 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Sobhana Mostary top-scored for Bangladesh with 34, while Dilara Akter contributed 26. Sri Lanka’s Chamudi Prabodha delivered a superb spell, claiming 3 wickets for 21 runs, while Sugandika Kumari picked up two wickets.
Chasing 115 for victory, Sri Lanka got off to a difficult start as they lost their first five wickets for just 44 runs.
However, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Nilakshika Silva steadied the innings with a crucial 38-run partnership for the sixth wicket, putting Sri Lanka back in control.
Sri Lanka eventually reached 115 for 6 in 19.2 overs to seal a four-wicket victory.
Harshitha remained unbeaten on a brilliant 48 off 37 balls, smashing four fours and two sixes. Nilakshika added 18 runs.
For Bangladesh, Marufa Akter claimed three wickets.
With three wins from three matches, Sri Lanka finished top of Group B and advanced to the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka’s semi-final is scheduled to be played on September 11.
