The historic Ashes series between Australia and England began yesterday in Perth, and the opening Test concluded within just two days, with Australia securing a convincing 8-wicket victory.

England, who batted first, were restricted to 172 runs in their first innings. Mitchell Starc delivered a brilliant bowling spell, claiming 7 wickets for 58, while Harry Brook (52) and Ollie Pope (46) top-scored for England.

Australia struggled in their reply, managing only 132 runs. Ben Stokes starred with the ball for England, taking 5 wickets, while Brydon Carse picked up 3 wickets.

With a 40-run lead, England began their second innings but were dismissed for 164. Scott Boland took 4 wickets, and Starc added 3 more to finish with 10 wickets in the match.

Chasing 205 for victory, Australia cruised to the target thanks to a blistering knock from Travis Head, who smashed 123 off 83 balls. Australia reached the target at 28.2 overs, losing only 2 wickets.

With this victory, played as part of the World Test Championship cycle, Australia now lead the Ashes series 1–0.
Mitchell Starc, for his match-winning 10-wicket haul, was named Player of the Match.
