The Greens produced a commanding all-round performance to secure a thumping 72-run win over the Blues in a Sri Lanka Cricket-organised T20 League clash held at the SSC Grounds in Colombo.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Greens got off to a steady start before accelerating in the middle overs. Opener Kamindu Mendis played a classy knock, anchoring the innings with a well-crafted half-century (50 runs). He received strong support from Chamika Karunaratne, who remained unbeaten on 41, providing a late flourish to propel the Greens to a competitive 158 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.
The Blues bowlers toiled hard, with Akila Dananjaya and Dilshan Madushanka both claiming two wickets each, but they struggled to contain the flow of runs in the final overs.
Chasing 159 for victory, the Blues never found momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals under relentless pressure from the Greens’ bowlers. Dushan Hemantha was the standout performer with the ball, wreaking havoc with figures of 4 for 18, while the rest of the attack kept things tight.
In the end, the Blues were bundled out for just 86 runs in 19 overs, handing the Greens a comfortable 72-run victory and boosting their position in the league standings.
