The opening Test of the two-match World Test Championship series between India and the West Indies began today in Ahmedabad, with India taking full control on Day One.
Winning the toss, the West Indies opted to bat first but crumbled against India’s disciplined bowling attack, getting bowled out for just 162 runs. Justin Greaves top-scored with 32, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to build partnerships.
For India, Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 40 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah supported well with 3 for 42. Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two wickets, and Washington Sundar took one to wrap up the innings.
India, in reply, reached 121 for 2 at stumps, reducing the deficit significantly. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on a solid *53, while Yashasvi Jaiswal (36) and Sai Sudharsan (7) were dismissed. The West Indies’ wickets were taken by Jayden Seales and Roston Chase.
With India just 41 runs behind and eight wickets still in hand, the hosts head into Day Two with a strong advantage.
