Former Sri Lanka fast-bowling great Lasith Malinga has been appointed as the consultant and fast-bowling coach of the Sri Lanka national cricket team on a short-term basis.
Sri Lanka Cricket officially announced the appointment today.
Malinga has been appointed for a one-month period, with his tenure effective from December 15 until January 25 next year.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket, Lasith Malinga’s coaching role will focus on preparing the country’s fast bowlers as the team gears up for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
The cricket board stated that Malinga’s vast international experience and his exceptional expertise in bowling during the death overs in T20 cricket are expected to be invaluable assets for Sri Lanka’s pace attack heading into the global tournament.
The ICC T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, is scheduled to begin on February 7 next year.
