In the final Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup, India pulled off a dramatic win over Sri Lanka in a Super Over after both sides ended tied on 202 runs.
Batting first, India piled on 202 for 5 — the tournament’s highest total so far.
Abhishek Sharma struck 61, Tilak Varma made an unbeaten 49, and Sanju Samson added 39 to power the innings.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Mahesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dasun Shanaka, and Charith Asalanka each taking one.
Sri Lanka’s reply began poorly with Kusal Mendis dismissed for a duck at 7 for 1.
But Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera ignited hopes with a sparkling 127-run stand.
Nissanka smashed his maiden T20 international century, a superb 107, becoming only the third batter to hit a hundred in Asia Cup T20 history.
Perera added a fluent 58, but the middle order crumbled, leaving the chase stuck at 202 after 20 overs.
The contest went into a Super Over, where Sri Lanka could only manage two runs. India sealed victory from the first ball.
Pathum Nissanka was named Player of the Match for his heroic innings, even though Sri Lanka fell just short.
India, already assured of a place in the final, will face arch-rivals Pakistan in Sunday’s blockbuster decider.
