South Africa defeated Afghanistan in a thrilling contest that went into two Super Overs in the T20 World Cup clash played in Ahmedabad.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to field first. South Africa posted 187/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to superb knocks from Ryan Rickelton (61) and Quinton de Kock (59).
For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai picked up 3 wickets, while Rashid Khan claimed 2.
In reply, Afghanistan matched the total exactly, scoring 187 all out, forcing the match into a Super Over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with a brilliant 84.
First Super Over
Afghanistan batted first and scored 17 runs off Lungi Ngidi’s over. South Africa responded with 17 runs as well, taking the match into a second Super Over. Afghanistan’s Super Over was bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Second Super Over
South Africa batted first this time and smashed 23 runs off Azmatullah Omarzai’s over. Chasing 24, Afghanistan could only manage 19 runs against Keshav Maharaj.
South Africa eventually sealed a 4-run victory in one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament.
