Sri Lankan javelin thrower Sumedha Ranasinghe set a new national record today at the National Athletics Selection Trials held at the Diyagama Stadium.

With this outstanding performance, Ranasinghe has also secured direct qualification for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He becomes the first Sri Lankan javelin thrower to qualify for this global event.
