Bimal Wijesinghe has been elected as the new president of Sri Lanka Athletics.
The election was held today at the auditorium of the Ministry of Sports Sri Lanka to appoint the new office bearers who will serve until 2027.
A total of 99 eligible voters were registered to cast their votes at the election.
The contest for the presidency was between Sunil Gunawardene and Bimal Wijesinghe. Wijesinghe secured victory with 61 votes, defeating Gunawardene who received 38 votes.
Meanwhile, Madhava Bandara Senarath was elected as the new Secretary, while Rasika Nilangani was appointed as the Treasurer.
The newly elected officials will oversee the development and administration of athletics in Sri Lanka over the next few years.
