The third edition of the ILT20 tournament concluded yesterday in Abu Dhabi, with Dubai Capitals emerging as champions after defeating Desert Vipers in the final.
After winning the toss, Dubai Capitals captain Sam Billings opted to bowl first. Desert Vipers posted a competitive total of 189/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to a blistering 76 off 51 balls by Max Holden and a rapid 62 off 33 balls by skipper Sam Curran. Obed McCoy was the pick of the bowlers for Dubai Capitals, taking two wickets.
In reply, Dubai Capitals struggled early, losing three wickets for just 31 runs. However, a crucial 80-run stand between Shai Hope (43) and Rovman Powell (63) revived the chase.
Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka played a quickfire cameo, smashing 21 off just 10 balls, including two massive sixes. After Powell’s dismissal, Sikandar Raza delivered a match-winning knock, scoring an unbeaten 34 off 12 balls to seal the victory.
This marks the first ILT20 title for Dubai Capitals. Representing Sri Lanka, both Dasun Shanaka and Dushmantha Chameera played for the Capitals, while Wanindu Hasaranga was part of the Desert Vipers squad but did not feature in the final.
