England, Australia and Afghanistan recorded victories in yesterday’s matches of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which is being jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.
In Harare, Zimbabwe, England faced Pakistan and were bowled out for 210 runs in 46.5 overs after opting to bat first. Pakistan, in reply, were dismissed for 173 runs in 46.3 overs, handing England a comfortable 37-run victory.
Meanwhile in Namibia, Ireland took on Australia in another Group encounter. Batting first, Ireland posted a competitive total of 235 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs, with Rob O’Brien top-scoring with 79. Australia responded in dominant fashion, reaching 237 for two in just 39.4 overs to seal the win. Stephen Hogan starred with a superb unbeaten 115.
In the third match of the day, Afghanistan defeated South Africa in an exciting contest held in Namibia. Afghanistan batted first and scored 266 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs, led by Faisal Shinosaada’s 81 and Khalid Ahmadzai’s 74. South Africa fought hard in the chase but were bowled out for 238 runs in 47.4 overs, as Afghanistan clinched a memorable 28-run victory.
