The ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup gets underway today (15th), with matches scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM Sri Lanka time. The prestigious tournament is being co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.
This edition marks the 16th Under-19 Cricket World Cup in history. India are the most successful team, having lifted the trophy five times, while Australia have won it on four occasions. Pakistan achieved back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2006, while the West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh, and England have each won the championship once.
A total of 16 teams are competing in this year’s tournament. In the first round, teams are divided into four groups, with four teams in each group.
Matches will be played across five venues in Zimbabwe and Namibia. The semi-finals and the final are scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe, with 25 matches taking place there and 16 matches hosted in Namibia.
The opening match of the tournament will be contested between India and the United States today. Sri Lanka’s first match in the competition is scheduled for January 17, where they will face Japan.
