South Africa Secures a Dominant Victory in Group B Opener

Ryan Rickelton’s maiden century powers South Africa to a commanding win.

The first Group B match of the Champions Trophy was played between Afghanistan and South Africa in Karachi, where South Africa emerged victorious with a 107-run win.

Winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first and posted a strong total of 315/6 in their 50 overs. The star of the innings was Ryan Rickelton, who scored 103 runs, registering his maiden ODI century. Captain Temba Bavuma contributed 58 runs, while Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram both scored 52 runs each.

In the bowling department for Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets, while Fazalhaq Farooqi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Noor Ahmad picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 316, Afghanistan was bowled out for 208 runs. Kagiso Rabada led the South African bowling attack with 3 wickets, while Wiaan Mulder and Lungi Ngidi claimed 2 wickets each.

With his match-winning century, Ryan Rickelton was named Player of the Match.

The next match of the tournament is set to take place tomorrow (22nd), featuring Australia vs. England.
