The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has established two subcommittees under the Advisory Committee to further develop sports and youth activities in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, the Sports Affairs Subcommittee includes Members of Parliament Attorney-at-Law Nilanthi Kottahachchi, Ruwan Mapalagama, Maillvaganam Jegadeeswaran, and Attorney-at-Law Hiruni Wijesinghe. Meanwhile, the Youth Affairs Subcommittee consists of Members of Parliament Lasith Bhashana Gamage, Dinindu Saman, and Kosala Nuwan Jayaweera. Other parliamentarians have also been granted the opportunity to join and contribute to these subcommittees voluntarily.
The decision to form these subcommittees was made during the first meeting of the Ministry’s Advisory Committee, chaired by Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sunil Kumara Gamage, on February 19 at the Parliament. The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Eranga Gunasekara, was also present at the meeting.
One of the key discussions at the session was the development of a database to compile information on school athletes across the country. This initiative aims to streamline talent identification and ensure structured development pathways for young athletes.
