The Premier Hockey League (PHL) Sri Lanka is gearing up for an exhilarating Season 2, promising to be the most prestigious hockey event in the island’s sporting calendar. At a recent press conference, the official announcement was made, setting the stage for an exciting month of competition that will begin the first week of November and extend through to the end of the month.

Police, Army, Navy, Air Force, BRC, CH, CR, Old Senanayakians Sports Club (DS) and Royal College Hockey Club are among the nine formidable teams that will compete in this year’s tournament, which is being organized by the Nextgen Hockey Development Society with support from the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

After a successful first season in which prominent international players, including those from the national teams of India and Pakistan, participated, Season 2 will see an even larger infusion of international talent. It is anticipated that their varied skill-set and global experience would increase the level of competitiveness and offer hockey fans nationwide exciting moments.

To spread the excitement of the game to a wider audience and inspire passionate fan engagement in both cities, the tournament will be held in two vibrant hockey hubs: Colombo and Matale.

By introducing a development squad to find and nurture up-and-coming talent, PHL Season 2 seeks to advance Sri Lankan hockey beyond the competition. The goal of this initiative is to strengthen the sport’s future in the country and get young athletes prepared for international competition.

The organizers thanked sponsors, media partners, previous players, and the wider hockey community for the tremendous support they received during the first season.

Mr. Kamal Pusphpakumara, President of NextGen Hockey Development Society Sri Lanka said, “The Premier Hockey League, a platform that not only showcases elite hockey but also sets the standard for the upcoming generation of players, is thrilled to launch Season 2.

This season looks to be nothing short of spectacular thanks to an expanded team lineup, world-class foreign players, and the unwavering support of our partners.”

The Premier Hockey League remains dedicated to excellence, transparency, and fostering the spirit of sportsmanship, ensuring that every match offers unforgettable moments for players and fans alike.
