Sri Lankan javelin star Rumesh Tharanga is set to compete in the men’s javelin throw final at the Brussels Diamond League Final in Belgium tonight.
Tharanga comes into the event in outstanding form, having won the javelin title at his last four consecutive Diamond League meetings.
The 2026 Diamond League season consists of 15 meetings, with the prestigious final stage getting underway in Brussels yesterday. The second day of competition continues today, featuring some of the world’s finest track and field athletes.
Tharanga qualified for the Brussels final after an impressive campaign across five Diamond League meetings this season. He finished second at the Rabat Diamond League, before winning four consecutive titles in Rome, Doha, Lausanne and Zurich.
His victory in Rome was particularly remarkable, as he produced a massive 92.62m throw — the best mark in the world in men’s javelin this year so far.
At the most recent Zurich Diamond League, Tharanga once again topped the field with an impressive 92.07m, further underlining his status as one of the world’s leading javelin throwers.
Tharanga will compete alongside six other athletes in tonight’s eight-man Brussels javelin final.
The event is scheduled to begin at midnight Sri Lanka time, with the Sri Lankan star aiming to cap his remarkable Diamond League campaign with another victory.
