Reports suggest that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to hold all of Bangladesh’s matches of the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play four matches in India during the group stage of the tournament. The ICC T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, is set to begin on the 7th of next month.
The request follows a recent development involving Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly asked the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) management to release Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL T20 squad, despite the player having a valid contract. Acting on the request, KKR subsequently removed him from the squad.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has stated that if a Bangladeshi cricketer is unable to play in India despite holding a valid contract, then traveling to India to participate in the T20 World Cup could be considered unsafe.
As a result, foreign media report that a problematic situation has emerged regarding the hosting of Bangladesh’s matches in India.
In the group stage, Bangladesh are scheduled to play four matches against West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal
