Australia scripted history in Visakhapatnam yesterday, defeating India by 3 wickets in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup with a record-breaking run chase.
The match entered the record books as the highest successful run chase ever in Women’s ODI cricket.
Batting first, India posted a massive 330 all out in 48.5 overs — their highest total in a Women’s ODI World Cup. Smriti Mandhana top-scored with 80 runs, while Pratika Rawal contributed a brilliant 75. Mandhana also crossed the 5,000-run milestone in ODI cricket, becoming only the second Indian woman to achieve that feat.
In reply, Australia produced a batting masterclass. Led by skipper Alyssa Healy, who hammered 142 runs off just 107 balls with 21 fours and 3 sixes, the Aussies chased down the target in 49 overs, finishing at 331/7.
Healy’s innings now stands as the third-highest score by a captain in a Women’s ODI World Cup match — a performance that sealed a truly historic win for Australia.
