Italy and the Netherlands have successfully qualified for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, following their impressive performances in the ICC Europe Qualifier tournament.
For Italy, this marks a historic milestone as they qualify for a T20 World Cup for the very first time, signaling the rapid growth of cricket in non-traditional nations.
The final of the European Qualifier, held in the Netherlands, saw both teams face off in a closely watched clash. Batting first, Italy posted 134 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, the Netherlands chased down the target comfortably in just 16.2 overs, losing only one wicket in the process to clinch the tournament title.
Despite the result, both finalists secured their place in the upcoming 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The mega tournament is expected to feature 20 participating teams, making it one of the largest editions in the event’s history.
This qualification further boosts the profile of Associate nations, with Italy’s maiden entry being particularly noteworthy, and reaffirms the Netherlands’ consistency in the shorter format.
