Mumbai Indians secured a record-breaking victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in a match played yesterday in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.
Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a strong total of 220 for 4. In response, Mumbai Indians successfully chased down the target, scoring 224 for 4 to win the match.
For Kolkata, Ajinkya Rahane scored 67 off 40 balls, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 51 off 29 balls. Finn Allen contributed 37 runs, and Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 33.
With the ball for Mumbai, Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets for 39 runs, while captain Hardik Pandya picked up one wicket.
During the chase, Mumbai’s opening pair Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton built a massive 148-run partnership for the first wicket in just 72 balls. Rohit scored 78 off 38 balls, while Rickelton added 81 off 43 balls.
For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi and Sunil Narine took one wicket each.
With this win, Mumbai Indians have won their opening match of an IPL season for the first time since 2012.
Shardul Thakur was named Player of the Match for his excellent bowling performance.
