Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming Asian T20 Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28, 2025.
The team will be captained by Charith Asalanka, marking a new leadership role for the left-handed batsman. The squad also includes several experienced players such as Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, and Dushmantha Chameera. Young talents like Nuwanidu Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Kamindu Mishara, Dunith Wellalage, Binura Fernando, Nuwan Thushara, and Matheesa Pathirana have also been called up.
A key talking point is the inclusion of Wanindu Hasaranga, who is currently recovering from injury. SLC has clarified that his participation will be subject to a fitness test before the tournament.
Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B, alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. The competition is expected to be fierce, with Sri Lanka aiming to improve their regional standing and gain crucial momentum ahead of next year’s ICC tournaments.
With a balanced blend of youth and experience, the Asalanka-led side will be looking to make a strong impact in the UAE conditions, which are likely to favor both spinners and aggressive batting.
