Sri Lanka’s inaugural Test cricketer and former captain, D. S. de Silva, has passed away at the age of 83. He reportedly died in London.

D. S. de Silva was a member of Sri Lanka’s first-ever Test cricket team and went on to captain the national side in two Test matches, playing a key role during the formative years of Sri Lankan Test cricket.

Beyond his playing career, he made a lasting impact as an administrator, serving as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket from 2009 to 2012.

Sri Lankan cricket mourns the loss of a true pioneer whose contributions helped shape the nation’s journey in international cricket.
