Sweden’s Armand Duplantis has broken the pole vault world record for the 13th time, achieving the feat at the Hungarian Grand Prix athletics meet.
Duplantis cleared 6.29 meters, surpassing his previous world record of 6.28 meters set in June this year.
He first claimed the pole vault world record in 2020 in Poland, with a leap of 6.17 meters.
If Duplantis secures the gold medal in pole vault at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, next month, he will become only the second athlete in history to win the world title in the event on three occasions.
Previously, this achievement was held solely by Ukrainian athlete Sergey Bubka, who between 1984 and 1994 broke the pole vault world record 17 times
