Tagline: Highest Number of Sri Lankan Athletes at the Event in 24 Years
Three Sri Lankan athletes have qualified for the 21st World Indoor Athletics Championship, set to take place from March 21 to 23 in Nanjing, China.
The qualified athletes are:
- Chamod Yodhasinghe (Sri Lanka Army) – 60m
- Kalinga Kumara (Sri Lanka Army) – 400m
- Kavisha Bandara (Sri Lanka Athletics Society) – 60m hurdles
These athletes secured their spots based on the world ranking system. Chamod and Kavisha earned their qualification through outstanding performances at the 1st National Sprint Championship held last month at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
This marks the highest number of Sri Lankan participants at the World Indoor Athletics Championship in 24 years. The last time more Sri Lankan athletes competed in this event was in 2001 in Lisbon, Portugal, where Susanthika Jayasinghe, Sugath Tillakaratne, Damayanthi Darsha, and Rohan Pradeep Kumara represented the country.
