Kandy Sports Club triumphed in the Clifford Cup knockout rugby tournament today, securing the championship for a record 22nd time.
The final match was played between Kandy SC and CR & FC this afternoon at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy. From the onset, it was a fiercely contested battle between the two sides. At the end of the first half, Kandy had scored 17 points, while CR & FC followed closely with 14 points.
In the second half, Kandy added another 27 points, while CR managed 19 more. At full-time, the scoreboard read 41-33 in favor of Kandy, sealing their hard-fought victory.
The champions recorded 5 tries and 2 penalty conversions to accumulate their points. Try scorers for Kandy were Diluksha Dandeniya, Nigel Ratwatte, Kenula Hettiarachchi, Dilshad Farid, and Heshan Jansz.
