Bangladesh scripted history by securing their first-ever T20I series win against Sri Lanka, defeating the hosts 2-1 in the recently concluded three-match series. The decisive third T20I was held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where Bangladesh emerged victorious by 8 wickets.
Sri Lanka, having won the toss, chose to bat first. However, their innings failed to gain momentum. Pathum Nissanka played a fighting knock of 46 runs, but regular fall of wickets hindered the scoring. Dasun Shanaka added a valuable unbeaten 32 off 25 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes, helping Sri Lanka post a modest total of 132/7 in their 20 overs.
Bangladesh’s bowling was spearheaded by Mehidy Hasan, who delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs in his 4 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh had a shaky start, losing Parvez Hossain on the first ball to Nuwan Thushara. However, Tanzid Hasan anchored the chase brilliantly. He scored a match-winning 73 not out off just 48 balls, laced with 4 fours and 6 sixes. Liton Das also contributed 32 runs.
Bangladesh reached the target in 16.2 overs, losing just 2 wickets, clinching the match and the series 2-1.
