The final Group B match of the Champions Trophy took place today in Karachi, featuring England vs. South Africa.
After winning the toss, England opted to bat first but struggled against South Africa’s disciplined bowling attack, getting bowled out for 179 runs.
Joe Root was England’s top scorer with 37 runs, while South African pacers Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder took three wickets each, dismantling England’s batting lineup.
With a modest target of 180 runs, South Africa is in a strong position to qualify for the semifinals. England’s campaign came to an end following their previous defeat against Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s Afghanistan vs. Australia match was abandoned due to rain, allowing Australia to secure a semi-final spot as group leaders. Despite South Africa and Afghanistan having equal points, today’s win ensures South Africa’s qualification to the next stage.
From Group A, India and New Zealand have already booked their places in the semi-finals.
