The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup clash between Sri Lanka and New Zealand ended without a result due to rain at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first and posted a strong total of 258 for 6 in 50 overs before rain interrupted play.
Captain Chamari Athapaththu led from the front, scoring 53 runs, registering her 20th ODI half-century — also Sri Lanka’s first fifty of the tournament.
Her opening partner Vishmi Gunaratne added a solid 42, while Harshitha Samarawickrama made 26 and Hasini Perera contributed 44.
The highlight of the innings came from Nilakshika de Silva, who smashed an unbeaten 55 off just 26 balls, reaching her fourth ODI half-century in record time — the fastest fifty of this World Cup.
Sri Lanka’s total of 258 became their second-highest score in Women’s World Cup history.
Unfortunately, heavy rain prevented New Zealand from starting their innings, resulting in the match ending with no result, and both teams sharing one point each.
