Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage made history at the 2025 Perth Track Classic by recording the best throw of the tournament so far (MR) with a remarkable distance of 85.41 meters. This also stands as the season’s best (SB) throw worldwide for 2025.
However, despite his incredible achievement, Rumesh fell just 9 centimeters short of the direct qualification mark for the World Athletics Championships in Japan.
He will have another opportunity to secure his qualification at an upcoming event in Sydney.
At just 22 years old, Rumesh was the youngest competitor in the event, making his performance even more impressive.
His outstanding result on an international stage marks a historic moment for Sri Lanka’s javelin throwing scene.
We at Sporty.lk extend our best wishes to Rumesh Tharanga as he aims to surpass the 85.50m mark in Sydney and secure his spot at the World Championships in Japan.
