Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has withdrawn his petition filed against Sri Lanka Cricket at the Colombo District Court.
The case sought an interim injunction compelling Sri Lanka Cricket to issue a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC), allowing him to participate in the Indian Premier League and other international franchise leagues in 2026.
Appearing for the petitioner, senior counsel G. G. Arulpragasam told court that the legal action was initiated after SLC refused to grant the required clearance. However, with several IPL matches already completed, continuing the case was deemed no longer practical, prompting the withdrawal.
Representing SLC officials, President’s Counsel Chandaka Jayasundara stated that Thushara had failed fitness tests on two occasions, including one conducted after filing the case. He emphasized that SLC policy does not grant NOCs to players who fail mandatory fitness standards.
In response, the petitioner’s counsel pointed out that Thushara had participated in the IPL in 2024 and 2025 despite failing fitness tests, and was still granted clearance at the time.
Following the request, the court permitted the withdrawal and dismissed the petition accordingly.
