Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup final after a clinical 2-0 victory over France in the first semi-final, moving within one win of lifting football’s biggest prize.
The highly anticipated semi-final between France and Spain was played in Dallas, USA, with both sides producing a fiercely contested encounter from the opening whistle. Strong defensive displays dominated the early stages as neither team was willing to concede space.
Spain broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty to give La Roja a crucial first-half lead.
France searched for an equaliser after the break, but Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through Pedro Porro, putting the match beyond reach.
Spain comfortably saw out the remainder of the contest to secure a 2-0 victory, sealing their place in the FIFA World Cup final.
It marks only the second time Spain have reached the FIFA World Cup final. Their previous appearance came in 2010, when they defeated the Netherlands to win their first and only World Cup title.
Spain will now await the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina as they bid to become world champions once again.
