Bangladesh have created history by securing their first-ever Test victory over Australia on Australian soil, defeating the hosts by nine wickets in the opening match of the two-Test series in Darwin.
Australia were bowled out for 198 in their first innings, before Bangladesh responded with a commanding 426. Tanzid Hasan led the charge with a superb 101, while Australia’s Josh Hazlewood claimed six wickets.
Australia fought back in their second innings, posting 284, with Cameron Green producing a brilliant 104. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz spearheaded Bangladesh’s attack with five wickets.
Set just 57 runs for victory, Bangladesh comfortably chased down the target, finishing on 58/1. Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 30, while Shadman Islam was unbeaten on 25.
The victory marks Bangladesh’s second Test win over Australia. Their previous victory came in 2017, when they defeated Australia by 20 runs in Mirpur.
This latest triumph, however, carries even greater significance — Bangladesh have now beaten Australia in a Test for the first time on Australian soil.
