India defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test of the series at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
India posted 462 in their first innings, while Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284. India then scored 193 in their second innings to set Sri Lanka a challenging 372-run target.
Sri Lanka resumed the final day on 84/4, with captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha at the crease.
Dhananjaya continued his resistance before being dismissed for 59, while Dinusha, who had scored a century in Sri Lanka’s first innings, produced another impressive performance by recording his second Test half-century.
Dinusha top-scored for Sri Lanka with a determined 84, but the hosts were eventually bowled out for 206, falling 165 runs short of the target.
India’s Manav Suthar was the star with the ball, claiming an outstanding six-wicket haul to wrap up Sri Lanka’s resistance.
The second Test of the series will begin on August 23 at the SSC Ground in Colombo, with Sri Lanka looking to bounce back and level the series.
