Sri Lanka fought back brilliantly on the opening day of the first Test against the West Indies, with captain Dhananjaya de Silva producing a superb century after an early batting collapse at North Sound.
After winning the toss, the West Indies elected to field first. Their decision paid immediate dividends as Sri Lanka slumped to 42/3. However, Dhananjaya led from the front with a magnificent 120, steering his side to a competitive first-innings total.
Dinesh Chandimal provided valuable support with 54, while Sonal Dinusha chipped in with 43 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 308.
For the hosts, Justin Greaves was the standout bowler with three wickets, while Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph picked up two wickets each.
The West Indies began their reply late in the day, but only one over was possible before stumps were called on Day One.
