Ireland pulled off a stunning upset to register their first-ever international victory over India, defeating the visitors by 34 runs in the opening T20I of the two-match series in Belfast.
After winning the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer elected to field first. Batting first, Ireland posted a competitive 182/9 from their 20 overs, setting India a target of 183.
In reply, India’s powerful batting line-up struggled against a disciplined Irish bowling attack and was bowled out for 148 in 18.5 overs, handing the hosts a memorable victory.
The result gives Ireland a 1-0 lead in the two-match T20I series and marks the nation’s first-ever international win over India across all formats.
The defeat is particularly significant as it came in India’s first T20I since lifting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, making Ireland’s historic triumph even more memorable.
