Former Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has announced his retirement from Test cricket, confirming that the upcoming Test against Australia at the Galle International Cricket Stadium will be his final match.
Karunaratne, who has played 99 Test matches for Sri Lanka, has accumulated 7,172 runs with an average of 39.40, including 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries. His highest Test score remains 244 runs.
Having made his Test debut against New Zealand in 2012, Karunaratne holds the record for the most runs scored as an opening batsman for Sri Lanka, amassing 7,079 runs at an average of 39.99.
He will become the seventh Sri Lankan cricketer to reach 100 Test appearances and has led the national team in 30 Test matches.
